A commercial minibus, popularly known as a trotro, rammed into the fence wall of the private residence of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in Nima on the evening of Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
The crash, which occurred around 7:30 p.m., left three people injured and caused significant damage to the property. The injured, including the driver’s mate and two passengers, were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene, with bystanders rushing to help as the trotro veered off the road and crashed into the heavily secured compound. While the exact cause of the incident remains unknown, preliminary reports point to a possible mechanical failure.
The residence, located in a busy part of Nima close to the police station and major routes leading to Accra Central, Osu, and Nkrumah Circle, has long been considered a high-security zone.
The driver of the vehicle has been arrested and is assisting police with investigations at the Nima Police Station.
