The former Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Michael Omari Wadie, has taken a tumultuous swipe at the National Security Operatives following the alleged raid on the home of former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor Dr Ernest Addison on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
The operation, allegedly led by the Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, Richard Jakpa, saw about 20 armed men storm Addison’s Roman Ridge residence
During the raid, heavily armed men in balaclavas, wielding AK-47 rifles, disabled the CCTV system before demanding access to “vaults” allegedly hidden in the house
After an extensive search, the operatives confiscated the CCTV monitor and control unit before seizing four of Dr Addison’s vehicles, including his Toyota Lexus and Mercedes Benz, and driving them to an undisclosed location.
This is the second raid led by Richard Jakpa targeting former Akufo-Addo appointees, following an earlier operation at the home of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta in February.
Reacting to the raid as a panellist on Accra-based Hot 93.9FM’s ‘Hot Morning Drive’ show, hosted by Don Kwabena Prah, Michael Omari Wadie expressed outrage at the incident, describing it as contemptible.
According to the former Vice Chairman of the biggest opposition party, “This is very disgraceful… Why, would you go to such a man who has worked so hard and thinks he can’t buy a common car? … Have you forgotten he is a former Governor? Don’t you know the governor is even paid more than the President?
The most intense part of his rant was when he cited, “Even journalists and teachers are buying cars… because of Akufo-Addo, now everyone can own a car… So it’s very shameful that they would raid the home of Addison and seize his car”.
