In a fervent call to action, Asafoatse Otubuor Onsuro-Gya, the Asafoakye of Ablekuma in the Greater Accra region, has implored parents and guardians to caution their children against engaging in any activities that could incite violence during the upcoming December elections.
This plea was made during the traditional cleansing rituals performed by the Sempe Mensah Family of Ablekuma to purify the community in preparation for this year’s Homowo Festival.
Asafoatse Otubuor emphasized the manipulative tactics of some politicians who, he claims, avoid involving their own children in electoral violence but instead, send other people’s children to cause unrest.
He sternly warned parents to remain vigilant and not allow their children to become puppets in the dangerous games of electoral violence, which could result in harm or even death.
Further elaborating on the significance of the purification rituals, Nii Okasa II, the Mankralo of Ablekuma, explained that these ceremonies aim to remove any negative spiritual influences that could affect the Homowo Festival celebrations. He also echoed the call for the youth to avoid violence and urged parents to guide their children away from troublemaking activities.
Nuumo Ojobi, the Ablekuma “Wolomo,” highlighted the importance of seeking the blessings and protection of their deities and ancestors through these cleansing rituals.
He emphasized that these rituals are essential for ensuring the community’s spiritual well-being and for safeguarding the participants during the festive period.
