Minority Leader and Effutu MP, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has visited the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, following a raid on his home by National Security operatives.
The Wednesday, March 19 operation, allegedly led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, saw about 20 armed men storm Addison’s Roman Ridge residence.
Afenyo-Markin, who reportedly expressed outrage at the incident, consoled Dr Addison and his family, describing the raid as deeply troubling. He assured the former BoG Governor that he would demand answers from the government regarding the operation.
During the raid, heavily armed men in balaclavas wielding AK-47 rifles disabled the CCTV system before demanding access to “vaults” allegedly hidden in the house. Dr Addison denied having such vaults or cash reserves, but security personnel ransacked the home.
According to Asaase Radio, no vaults or large sums of money were found. However, operatives seized the CCTV monitor and control unit before leaving.
Dr. Addison and his family remain traumatized by the ordeal.
This is the second such raid led by Richard Jakpa targeting former Akufo-Addo appointees, following an earlier operation at the home of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta in February.
