In a significant reshuffle, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, to oversee the Energy Ministry following the resignation of Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh.
Dr. Opoku-Prempeh, who has been selected as the running mate to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is stepping down to focus on the upcoming 2024 elections.
The selection of Dr. Opoku-Prempeh as the NPP’s vice-presidential candidate was finalized after several candidates were considered.
Dr. Opoku-Prempeh, currently serving as the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South and the outgoing Minister for Energy, was officially introduced as the running mate at a durbar in Kumasi on July 9, 2024.
Following his unveiling, he is set to resign from his ministerial position, effective July 18, 2024, as stated by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the Presidency.
In the wake of this transition, President Akufo-Addo has designated Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor to take on Cabinet oversight responsibilities for the Ministry of Energy. Jinapor, who is also the Member of Parliament for Damongo Constituency, will continue in his primary role as the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources while managing the additional duties.
This was revealed in a Facebook post by the Lands and Natural Resources Ministry.
Additionally, Hon. Herbert Krampah, the Minister of State-designate for the Ministry of Energy, will handle the day-to-day administration of the ministry.
This new assignment marks the third instance where President Akufo-Addo has entrusted Jinapor with added responsibilities.
