The Black Queens of Ghana have advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a commanding 4–1 victory over Tanzania in their final Group C match on Monday night.

In a must-win encounter, Ghana delivered a dominant second-half performance that overpowered the Twiga Stars and reignited their continental title hopes.

Ghana started brightly, with Princella Adubea capitalising on a defensive error to score the opener in the 11th minute. However, Tanzania levelled just before halftime through Stumai Athuman after exploiting a gap in Ghana’s defence.

The Black Queens responded decisively after the break. A foul on Princess Marfo resulted in a penalty, which Alice Kusi converted to restore the lead. Impact substitutes Stella Nyamekye and Evelyn Badu added fresh control to midfield, with Badu extending the lead after a clever free-kick routine.

Ghana sealed the victory in the 89th minute with a fine finish from Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, capping off a swift counterattack and rounding off an impressive team display.

With South Africa thrashing Mali 4–0 in the other group match, Ghana finished second in Group C with four points, edging Mali on goal difference.

Final Group C Standings

  • South Africa – 7 pts
  • Ghana – 4 pts
  • Mali – 4 pts
  • Tanzania – 1 pt

The Black Queens will now face Algeria in the quarterfinals as they continue their push for WAFCON glory.
