The management of Gumah FM in Bawku has accused the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation of discrimination in its decision to shut down the station.
On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, the Ministry ordered Gumah FM to cease operations immediately, citing national security concerns.
According to the Ministry, the decision was based on recommendations from the Upper East Regional Security Council following an emergency review meeting. The statement alleged that intelligence reports indicated Gumah FM had been using its platform to incite violence, disrupt public order, and escalate tensions in the region.
However, in a response posted on its official Facebook page, Gumah FM’s management denied the allegations, insisting that the station had not engaged in any activity that threatened national security or the peace of Bawku.
The management further stated that the process leading to the station’s closure was politically motivated, raising concerns about fairness and media freedom.
