Persons who consume Coconut in the Ashanti Region should brace themselves for price hikes to correspond with the increment in the recent fuel prices in the country.
Coconut Sellers in the Ashanti Regional Capital have hinted at an upward adjustment in order to stay in business indicating how unhappy they are over the increasing cost of transportation.
Speaking in an interview with AMBASSADOR TV a 26-year-old coconut seller Abdul Baba Rahman said that recent fuel price increment has become a major challenge affecting the coconut business in the country”
“Majority of Coconut sellers in Kumasi have to travel long distances to get the coconut fruit to buy and due to the recent fuel price increment, drivers charge us a huge amount of money before we can bring the coconut fruits to Kumasi to sell”.
“Coconut fruit is Ghc4 and Ghc5 depending on the sizes but due to the recent fuel price increment, consumers will pay more to be able to enjoy Coconut in Kumasi” Baba Rahman explained.
He added “Ghc4 coconut will be Ghc5 while the Ghc5 of will be Ghc6 because fuel price increment is gradually collapsing our business so there is the need for the increment”
“We have the Coconut Sellers Association in Kumasi and our leaders determined Coconut price adjustment but after our previous meetings, I strongly believe that Coconut price will go up soon in Kumasi”
Abdul Baba Rahman urged President Akufo-Addo’s government to implement good policies which will help stabilize fuel prices in the country.
