The Convention People’s Party (CPP) Presidential Candidate, Nana Akosua Sarpong Kumankuma, has criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) for retaining the late Akua Donkor’s name on the ballot paper for the upcoming elections.
Her remarks followed a visit to polling centers in the Dormaa Central constituency in the Bono Region.
Akua Donkor, the late founder of the Ghana Freedom Party, passed away, yet her name remains on the ballot. Nana Akosua expressed concern over the EC’s oversight, citing a previous incident where a deceased Assembly Member aspirant posthumously won an election due to similar negligence.
Speaking to reporters, the CPP flagbearer emphasized that such lapses undermine the credibility of the electoral process and urged the EC to act swiftly to rectify the issue. She stressed that transparency and fairness must guide the upcoming polls to avoid unnecessary confusion.
Nana Akosua also pointed out the potential impact of such errors on voter confidence and the integrity of the democratic system. She called on stakeholders to ensure that all necessary corrections are made before election day.
Her critique adds to growing concerns about the EC’s preparedness for the elections, with calls for immediate reforms to bolster public trust in the electoral process.
