The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Awatey, has announced plans to rename and redesign the DVLA Roundabout in Koforidua in honour of the late former Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah.

In a statement reflecting on the life and service of the late statesman, the Regional Minister said the decision forms part of efforts to preserve his legacy and recognise his immense contribution to national development and the Eastern Region in particular.

She disclosed that she, together with the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, recently paid a courtesy visit to the mother of the late minister at her residence in Koforidua as part of activities to honour his memory.

According to Ms Awatey, Dr Omane Boamah was a distinguished public servant and a proud son of the Eastern Region whose dedication to national service, most notably as Minister for Defence, earned him widespread respect.

As part of the memorial initiative, the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, has agreed to undertake a major re-engineering of the DVLA Roundabout, which will subsequently be renamed the Dr Omane Boamah Roundabout.

She said the redesigned landmark is expected to serve as a lasting symbol of patriotism, leadership and selfless service, while inspiring young people in the region to contribute meaningfully to national development.

The Regional Minister expressed the hope that the project would continually remind residents, especially the youth, that through commitment, discipline and love for country, it is possible to make a lasting impact.

She concluded by paying tribute to the late Defence Minister, noting that the Eastern Region will always remember him as one of its finest sons.
