The Electoral Commission (EC) has suspended its decision to restrict the number of accredited media houses at collation centres for the December 7 elections.
The announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Bossman Asare during the Graphic National Development Series event in Accra.
This decision follows discussions with the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) and the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), both of which raised concerns about the initial directive.
The EC’s earlier memo, dated November 25, 2024, had proposed accrediting only eight media organizations per collation centre.
Dr. Bossman Asare clarified that the intent was not to limit media access but to ensure effective management of the collation process.
He assured the public of the Commission’s commitment to upholding the media’s critical role in ensuring transparent and fair elections. Further consultations are expected to establish a revised policy on media access.
