Mr. Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of Operations, has expressed optimism about enrolling between 50,000 and 70,000 new voters in the upcoming mop-up voter registration exercise.
Scheduled from August 1 to August 3, 2024, this three-day event aims to capture the names of individuals who have recently turned 18 and those who missed the previous registration period, ensuring they are included in the electoral roll.
During a news conference held in Accra, Mr. Tettey outlined the extensive preparations made for the registration drive.
The EC has designated 268 District Offices, 26 Public Universities, and 41 Prison Centres nationwide as registration points. This broad network is designed to facilitate easy access to registration services for all eligible citizens across the country.
Following the registration period, the EC has planned an exhibition of the Voters Register from August 20 to August 27, 2024.
This process will allow the public to review and verify their details, with the exhibition set to take place at all polling stations nationwide. This step is crucial for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the voter register before the upcoming elections.
Mr. Tettey emphasized the importance of this mop-up exercise in maintaining a comprehensive and up-to-date voter register, which is essential for the integrity of the electoral process.
The initiative reflects the Commission’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility, aiming to accommodate all eligible voters and enhance participation in the democratic process.
