A Presidential Staffer under the previous Akufo-Addo administration, Mr Dennis Miracles Aboagye has painted a picture of how Ghana looks like under the current Mahama administration so far with just three months of President John Mahama in office.

Ahead of the 2025 budget presentation, Miracles Aboagye noted that the country is currently facing err6acoc power supply (Dumaosr), increasing fuel prices, escalated illegal small-scale mining (Galamsney), dismissal of workers, increment in prices of goods and services.

In a post on his Facebook page, he said “2025 Budget Reading in 48hours…Dumsor on the rise, Galamsey is escalated because the real galamseyers are in town as NDC Galamsey kingpins finally step out to fight security services in the open and chase them from their galamsey sites. Our water bodies reaching all-time high pollution.

“Thousands of Ghanaians sacked from work for no justifiable cause, Fuel Price on the hike as prices of goods and services on an astronomical rise. First-year University students experience anti-climax after paying for their own fees despite the promise from the Government.

“Long-standing fact about some fake neutrals and biased CSOs finally confirmed, so-called neutrals as they rush for political appointments amidst flashing of their NDC party cards in our faces after misleading an entire country to follow them believing they advocated for love of country

“Our country is on a reset, some cutting deep to the dark days. The effect may be dire and positive in some cases. We have a country to develop and a responsibility to keep our government on its toes to fulfill its social contract with our citizens for the sake of the future of our country.”

Meanwhile, the President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), Dr Joseph Obeng, has told the Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson that traders are not expecting new taxes in the 2025 budget statement.

He said GUTA will welcome any move by the government to expand the tax net to cover people who do not pay levies.

“We’re not expecting new taxes. We’re also not going to be worried when new taxes are tailored to bring in people outside the tax net to pay. That one, we will not be worried. But what we will be worried about is just compounding the taxes on a few of us who pay.

“Expanding the tax net is welcomed. And whichever means they do to rope in a lot more people who are outside the tax net to come in is also welcome news,” he said.

The Ghanaian government has approved the 2025 fiscal policy document ahead of its official presentation to Parliament on March 11.

This decision, made during a special Cabinet meeting on Thursday, reaffirms the administration’s commitment to economic stabilization and sustainable growth.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Minister of Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu assured Ghanaians that the government remains committed to fulfilling its social and economic promises.

He confirmed that the fiscal policy will reflect the administration’s 120-day pledges, including the removal of the betting tax and COVID levy.

Additionally, the budget will outline the financial state inherited by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government while offering hope and strategic policies for national development.
