Former Black Stars assistant coach George Boateng has been appointed as the first-team coach at English Championship side Coventry City.

Boateng, known for his stints at Aston Villa and Middlesbrough as a midfielder, resumes management after his departure from the Ghana national team earlier this year following a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

Boateng, who played for Coventry City during the 1998/99 season, scoring seven goals in 57 appearances, including a memorable brace against Aston Villa, joins Rhys Carr as the newest additions to Coventry’s technical staff.

The club is set to kick off their pre-season preparations this week as they gear up for the upcoming season.

Coventry City manager Mark Robins expressed his enthusiasm about the new appointments, stating, “We are very pleased to welcome George and Rhys to Coventry City. They both impressed us during the extensive recruitment process for this important role and each brings key skills to the football department.”

Robins added, “Their experience and knowledge will greatly aid our work to maximize the performance and preparation of our team, both in advance of, and on matchdays, and we are excited to begin working with them.”

Boateng’s return to Coventry City marks a significant reunion with the club where he began his career in England, now bringing his coaching expertise to contribute to the team’s aspirations in the competitive Championship league.
