The Ghana Theatre Festival 2025, an annual arts festival that showcases the works of diverse artists and performing arts groups, is set to take place from September 23 to 28, 2025, at the National Theatre in Accra.

This year’s festival was officially launched on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at the National Theatre with a special invitation to the media and the general public to join in the exciting week-long celebration of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.

The theme for this year’s festival is “Showcasing the Rich Diversity of Ghanaian Culture Through the Performing Arts.”

The six-day festival will feature a variety of activities designed to celebrate and promote the performing arts in Ghana, including:

I. Legends Night to honour outstanding contributors to Ghana’s creative and performing arts industry.

II. Theatre Performances by Senior High Schools aimed at promoting theatre arts among students, providing a platform for schools to showcase their creative works.

III. Performances by the Department of Music, School of Performing Arts, Legon, Banarackor Consult, Images Bureau, April Communications, and the three resident companies of the National Theatre: the Ghana Dance Ensemble, the National Symphony Orchestra, and the National Drama Company (Abibigromma).

IV. A Symposium on Arts Taxation with a focus on “the impact of the current tax regime on the fortunes of the Arts and Culture industry,” led by officials and tax experts.

The festival will also feature art exhibitions, masterclasses, dance aerobics, live paintings, a food bazaar, and several other creative performances throughout the week.

The Ghana Theatre Festival aims to:

Provide performing arts groups and individual artists a platform to exhibit their work and talents, build the production capacity of theatre practitioners, ensure that quality productions remain accessible to diverse audiences and foster a growing community of theatre lovers and potential patrons.

From September 23 to 28, 2025, the Ghana Theatre Festival at the National Theatre promises an unforgettable celebration of Ghanaian culture, talent, and creativity.
