President John Dramani Mahama has expressed gratitude to 13 residents of Sikaman-Brofoyedu for their critical role in recovering the bodies of eight victims from the tragic military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
The helicopter crash, which occurred in the Dampia Range Forest Reserve in the Adansi Akrofrom District, claimed the lives of eight high-profile officials, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.
The victims were on official duty at the time of the accident.
Speaking to the residents on Wednesday, August 27, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah said, “The President has asked me to represent him and thank the residents who helped us recover the bodies of our eight men. We have a plaque for all of you in honour of what you did.
“The president is also giving you GHS100,000 for what you did for the country. For the rites that remain to be done, the president is also giving the chiefs GHS 20,000. Whatever will be left behind, let your DCEs and party chairmen know so we can clear those.”
In addition to the cash donation of GHS100,000 to the rescuers and GHS20,000 to the Adansi Traditional Council, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah further announced that all 13 individuals involved in the body recovery efforts would be offered jobs based on their individual capabilities.
The President has also committed to improving the area’s infrastructure.
“President Mahama has also assured to fix your road,” Mr. Asiedu Nketiah added.
The support package is being widely seen as a significant acknowledgement of the community’s bravery and sacrifice during the national tragedy.
