Dependable Black Stars and Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, has finally explained why he opted for a commercial minibus, popularly known as a ’trotro’.
Shortly after returning from international duty with the Black Stars in March, the 32-year-old Hearts of Oak goalkeeper was captured riding in a trotro.
The video, which quickly circulated on social media, sparked widespread curiosity.
Many had assumed that his involvement with the national team would have earned him the means to avoid public transportation.
But the celebrated Ghanaian goalkeeper, unfazed by public opinion, calmly took his seat in the front row of the bus—an image that soon turned symbolic.
As the footage gained traction online, it caught the attention of influential businessman Alhaji Seidu Agongo.
The business tycoon gifted Benjamin Asare a brand-new Hyundai Elantra on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Hot 93.9 FM, Benjamin Asare clarified that he never intended to take the trotro.
According to him, “I wanted to use Uber or a taxi. But because of how difficult it is to book a ride from Pobiman, I concluded that it wasn’t necessary. Hence my decision to hop on a trotro… I’m a hustler,”
Benjamin Asare, who has kept 15 clean sheets in 24 matches for Hearts of Oak, has been included in Ghana’s squad for the upcoming Unity Cup in London, slated for May 28.
