Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, lawyer for former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah has called for transparency regarding his client’s invitation by the National Investigations Bureau, NIB.
Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News, the lawyer said misleading information was circulated on social media after Mr Nkansah voluntarily reported to the NIB.
“It is also a matter of public knowledge that on Thursday, immediately after Kofi voluntarily reported to the NIB, an operative of this government had put out on social media that Kofi had been picked up by operatives of the National Investigations Bureau, which was not true,” he said.
Mr Awuah noted that the claim created a false impression about the situation and raised questions about the intention behind the invitation.
“So what kind of discussions went on for him to put out such information, and what was the expectation of the system at the BNI when Kofi was invited?” he asked.
He described these concerns as legitimate and said they point to possible political influence.
“These are very legitimate questions that lead to the conclusion that this whole matter is politically motivated,” he stated.
