Former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will deliver virtual addresses at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming National Delegates Congress, scheduled for Saturday, July 19, 2025.
According to party sources, both former leaders are unable to attend in person due to reasons described as “beyond their control,” Graphic Online reports.
The Congress, to be held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, marks the NPP’s first major national gathering since its loss in the 2024 general elections. Delegates from across the country are expected to attend, with discussions focused on internal reforms and strategies to rebuild the party ahead of the 2028 polls.
Nana Akufo-Addo, who has been outside the country, will not be able to return in time for the event. Former President Kufuor, who was recently active in the party’s affairs, including the launch of the Patriotic Institute, is also unable to be physically present.
Party insiders say both former presidents will address delegates via video, highlighting their continued influence and interest in the party’s future direction. Their recorded messages will form a critical part of the Congress’s proceedings.
Key on the agenda is the review of the party’s constitution, with reforms proposed by the Mike Oquaye Committee and unresolved matters from the 2019 Kumasi Congress expected to be tabled. Themed “Rebuilding Together with Our Values,” the Congress aims to revive grassroots support and restore the NPP’s ideological identity after a tough electoral defeat.
