General Secretary for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has dismissed claims that former President John Agyekum Kufuor has been sidelined in party affairs.
According to him, the former President remains an integral part of the party’s structures and is consistently informed of key decisions and activities.
“Under the Fourth Republic, the man who first secured power for us was Kufuor, and we are proud of him as a former statesman. There is no way we would do anything and fail to inform him,” Kodua stated during an interview on Peace FM on Tuesday, July 15.
He explained that the NPP’s constitution grants all former presidents membership on both the National Executive Committee and the National Council. Kodua added that Kufuor’s aides—Araba Bosompem and Adu Acheampong—are routinely served notices for party meetings, and acknowledgements are received each time.
“For former President Kufuor, he has two aides… Every meeting we hold, we serve them notice, and they acknowledge receipt,” he noted, stressing that the party respects the former President’s status.
Kodua further questioned the context and timing of a viral video in which Kufuor lamented being excluded from party decisions, noting that it was likely recorded before the launch of the NPP’s Patriotic Institute and that the former President is currently out of the country.
“The video raises questions because former President Kufuor is not even in the country at the moment. I can tell you that the video was recorded before the NPP launched the Patriotic Institute,” he stated.
