Ghanaian music producer Kwame Mickey has announced the amicable resolution of a copyright issue with Team Eternity Ghana, whom he accused of using lyrics from his song ‘Defe Defe’ in their new release.
In a statement from his OFM company, Mickey confirmed that a License Agreement had been reached, granting Team Eternity Ghana the non-exclusive right to use the disputed lyrics.
The dispute arose a few weeks ago when Kwame Mickey, through a Facebook post, accused Team Eternity Ghana of sampling his 2004 song ‘Defe Defe,’ performed by Hallelujah Voices and written by Osuani Afrifa.
Mickey claimed that Team Eternity Ghana had infringed on his copyright by using a line from his song in their new hit, also titled ‘Defe Defe.’
Released in January as part of Team Eternity’s album ‘Testimony,’ the new ‘Defe Defe’ has since topped Apple Music Ghana’s Top 100 and other charts.
Following the resolution, both parties have agreed to move forward under the terms of the License Agreement.
