The Coalition of La Associations and the GaDangme Coalition Against Land Injustice have announced a series of demonstrations beginning Tuesday, July 30, against what they describe as unethical land seizures by political entities in the Greater Accra Region.
The protests will focus on contested areas such as the Trade Fair land, including territories occupied by Labadi Beach and La Palm Royal Beach Hotels, where they allege original owners have not been adequately compensated.
Concerns have also been raised about lands belonging to the Prisons Service at Cantonments, where a private developer is planning to redevelop facilities and use part of the land for private business ventures.
This has further fueled the groups’ grievances about land injustice in the region.
In response to these concerns, the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament is scheduled to visit the Ghana Prisons Service Barracks at Cantonments and the Prisons Service land at Roman Ridge in Accra on Tuesday.
This visit aims to address the issues raised by the youth group and assess the situation on the ground.
