Legendary Ghanaian actor William Addo better known as Akpatse has died.

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Mr. William Addo, affectionately known as Akpatse, a legendary figure in Ghana’s theatre and film industry.
He passed away peacefully on 22nd November 2025 after years of battling severe health challenges.
Mr. Addo’s remarkable career spanned several decades, during which he distinguished himself as an actor, lecturer, director, and cultural advocate.
He gained national acclaim through his unforgettable performances on GTV’s Thursday Theatre and numerous other productions, where his unique style and comic brilliance earned him the household name “Akpatse.” His work on stage and screen has left an indelible mark on Ghana’s creative arts landscape.
A consummate professional and scholar of the arts, he studied Drama and Theatre Studies at the University of Ghana and later earned a master’s degree in Acting and Directing from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom.
Beyond his iconic roles, he served in key leadership positions, including Director at the National Theatre and Director of Programmes at the National Commission on Culture. He also lectured in the Theatre Arts Department, where he helped train and mentor many of Ghana’s celebrated actors and creatives.
In his later years, Mr. Addo faced significant health challenges, becoming visually impaired due to glaucoma and cataracts. Despite these difficulties, he remained admired for his resilience and for the enduring legacy he built within Ghana’s arts community.
