President John Dramani Mahama has declared that all contractors who abandoned road projects across the country will soon return to their sites. He disclosed that an audit by the Auditor General into all road contracts awarded under the previous administration has been completed, clearing the path for stalled projects to resume.

Addressing a crowd at the Jackson Park in Koforidua as part of his Eastern Regional Thank You Tour, the President reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to revive crucial infrastructure projects. He said the resumption of these road works is part of broader efforts to improve the country’s road network and stimulate local economic development.

President Mahama also sent a strong warning to contractors who received double payments—from both the Road Fund and the Ministry of Finance—saying those found culpable will face sanctions. According to him, this financial overlap, uncovered during the audit, will not go unpunished as the government clamps down on wastage and corruption in the sector.

In a show of support, the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, Nene Sakite II, lauded Mahama for what he described as a promising and proactive start within just 120 days of assuming office. He praised the President’s leadership and his efforts to restore integrity and momentum in public infrastructure delivery.

Nene Sakite II further pledged the backing of traditional rulers in the ongoing fight against illegal mining. He urged President Mahama to maintain pressure in the anti-galamsey campaign, emphasizing its importance for environmental protection and national development.
