National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama has promised to reopen the Prestea Gold Mines in the Western Region as part of his vision to revitalize Ghana’s mining sector and create employment opportunities for the youth.
Speaking during his Western Region campaign tour in Prestea Huni Valley, Mahama assured the chiefs and residents that the initiative would not only generate jobs but also promote sustainable mining practices.
“This move aligns with my vision to ensure mining benefits the youth and local communities while adhering to responsible practices,” he stated.
He also vowed to establish Minerals Commission and Environmental Protection Agency offices in mining areas to oversee environmentally sustainable operations and ensure mining revenues improve the livelihoods of host communities.
