Professor Smart Sarpong, Director of Research and Innovation at Kumasi Technical University, has revealed that a survey he conducted indicates Lawyer Nana Barfour Awuah is the frontrunner to win the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Manhyia South parliamentary primaries.
This finding contradicts earlier claims that Owusu Afriyie Prempeh, the brother of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, would likely succeed his brother in the primaries.
The Manhyia South parliamentary seat became vacant after Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh was approved as the running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Candidates vying for the seat include Owusu Afriyie Prempeh, who is first on the ballot, Lawyer Nana Barfour Awuah, who is second, Akwasi Coker Gyambibi, who is third, and James Owusu Boakye, who is fourth on the ballot.
A total of 569 delegates are expected to cast their votes in Sunday’s primary.
Despite the presence of strong candidates, Professor Sarpong’s survey suggests that Lawyer Nana Barfour Awuah has the highest likelihood of securing the nomination.
The survey’s results have sparked discussions and debates within the party, as many had anticipated a clear path for Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s brother.
With the primaries approaching, all eyes are on the delegates’ decision and the potential shift in the party’s dynamics.
