The Minority in Parliament has announced its decision to abstain from the vetting of Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry designate.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, July 2, and signed by Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Caucus expressed frustration over the large size of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration and its poor economic performance.

“We are affronted by the already large size of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government and its poor economic performance,” the statement read.

The Minority highlighted several ongoing challenges, including a crippling economic crisis, food insecurity, debt default due to excessive borrowing, and government corruption.

They stressed that they could not support this nomination by President Akufo-Addo amidst these severe issues.

The Minority criticized the President’s continued nomination of additional ministers, arguing it demonstrates a lack of understanding of the economic turmoil caused by his administration’s policies.

“Members of the Minority Caucus on the Appointments Committee of Parliament will not participate in today’s vetting of the President’s nominee for the post of Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry,” they declared.

Their refusal to participate is rooted in their commitment to not further burden the already struggling Ghanaian populace.

The statement concluded by emphasizing the financial strain caused by what they termed a bloated government and their unwillingness to endorse further appointments under such conditions.
