Ghanaians and social media users have launched a campaign with the hashtag fixthemotorway on Twitter, currently rebranding to X, to call on the Akufo-Addo administration to fix the undesired state of the motorway.
Road users have lamented bitterly over the lack of streetlights, dilapidated roads, and potholes, amongst others.
While citizens have described the deplorable state of the roads as death traps, others have alleged that the conditions are due to poor management by government.
The Tema Motorway, officially known as the N1 Highway, is a 19-kilometre (12 mi) highway that links Tema to Accra. It is the only motorway in Ghana constructed under the Kwame Nkrumah administration and opened to traffic in November 1965.

If this gov’t is still in power after 2024 election expect and you’re expecting a miracle you’re the problem, lack the ability to think. If another party comes in power considering the damages, it’ll take sacrifices to get the economy on it feet.

The day I tried dodging a pothole on the Motorway I veered off the road. I struggled to get back on the road. I nearly had an accident! This was just 3 weeks ago‼️
Fix that death trap. #FixTheMotorway ‼️‼️‼️
