The Electoral Commission has declared Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) the winner of the Awutu Senya East Constituency parliamentary race.
She secured a total of 50,886 votes, defeating the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mavis Hawa Koomson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who polled 45,638 votes. The announcement was made earlier today, cementing Naa Koryoo’s victory in a hotly contested election.
Supporters of the NDC erupted in celebration following the declaration, hailing the outcome as a fresh start for the constituency. Many expressed optimism about Naa Koryoo’s leadership and her plans to address pressing developmental challenges.
The win marks a significant political shift in the constituency, where Hawa Koomson had previously been a dominant figure.
Meanwhile, the election period was marred by a tragic incident at Kasoa yesterday, where a shooting at Naa Koryoo’s residence claimed one life and left another injured.
The Peace Council has condemned the violence, calling for calm and urging political parties to prioritize peace and stability.
