In a spirit and atmosphere of nostalgia, the National Theatre of Ghana, as part of activities to mark this year’s Ghana Theatre festival, has on Tuesday, 23rd of September, honoured some past employees and retirees of the National Theatre for their valuable dedication and contribution that has shaped the success story of the National Theatre and its resident groups- the Dance Company, the Drama Company and the National Symphony Orchestra.

In appreciation of their contribution, the ten people honoured , made up of two past employees and eight retirees, received Appreciation Plaque with Citations and gift items from Ghana Textiles Print( GTP). At the ceremony was Honourable Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and Member of Parliament for Ketu South who happened to be one of the past employees to be honoured at the function. Others include Madam Amarteokor Amarteifio, currently the Board Chairperson of the National Theatre and one time Artistic Director in charge of Operations and Programmes, Madam Aku Dzifa Florence Glikpoe, former Artistic Director of the Drama Company, Brimah Watara (Drama Company), Juliana Achampomaa Hanson (Dance Company), Ibrahim Meriga(Dance Company), Patrick Nana Adu Darku( Symphony Orchestra), Felix Koblavie(Symphony Orchestra).Gabriel Joseph Wilson, and Samuel Ashie.

In his speech to kick start the colourful event dubbed,” HONOURING OUR OWN “, the acting Executive Director of the National Theatre, Henry Herbert Malm expressed his profound gratitude to the ten past employees and retirees and also reiterated his commitment to ensuring that such events to honour employees for their contribution becomes a permanent feature on the calendar of the National Theatre.
In closing the ceremony, Honourable Dzifa Gomashie, who was awed by the appreciation showed her, praised the management and staff of the National Theatre as she recounted her working days with the Drama Company.
