In a surprising revelation ahead of the 2024 elections, Henry Nana Boakye, also known as Nana B and the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), shared a curious encounter from a recent campaign stop.
Posting on his Facebook page, Nana B recounted a visit to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) office in the Evalue Ajomoro Gwira constituency, where an unexpected conversation unfolded.
During the visit, NDC executives expressed dissatisfaction with their own Member of Parliament, particularly regarding the lack of development in the constituency.
According to the NDC, when questioned about their party’s underperformance, the MP reportedly gave a surprising excuse stating that a structural pillar in Parliament was blocking his view, making it difficult for him to catch the Speaker’s attention and advocate effectively for his constituency.
This unusual explanation has raised concerns among the NDC executives, who contrasted the current MP’s performance with that of the former representative, Hon. Catherine Afeku, whom they credited with bringing more development to the area.
In the 2020 election for the Evalue Ajomoro Gwira Constituency, the NDC candidate Kofi Arko Nokoe won with 53.4% of the votes, an increase of 7.1% from the 2016 election. The NPP candidate, Catherine Abelema Afeku, secured 46.6% of the votes, a decrease of 5.7% compared to the previous election.
Historically, the constituency has seen fluctuating support between the two major parties, with NDC gaining momentum in 2020.
As the campaign season heats up, this “pillar excuse” may become a symbol of the current MP’s perceived ineffectiveness, potentially shifting voter support.
