Apostle Dr. Isaac Owusu-Bempah, founder and leader of Glorious Word Power Ministries International, has publicly endorsed President John Dramani Mahama in the ongoing controversy surrounding Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkonoo.
In a recent media interview, Apostle Owusu-Bempah drew a parallel between traditional Ghanaian leadership practices and the current judicial situation, stating that just as a new chief appoints a new panel of advisers to ensure effective governance, so too should a new administration have the authority to make necessary changes within the judiciary.
He encapsulated this principle with the phrase “New King, New Law,” emphasizing the importance of aligned leadership for the country’s progress.
“When a new chief is installed, he installs a new panel per the people he can work with to have good ruling. New King, New Law,” Apostle Owusu-Bempah remarked, highlighting the relevance of this analogy to the current judicial matter.
Apostle Owusu-Bempah further commended President Mahama, describing him as an experienced leader who understands the nation’s needs and is committed to steering Ghana toward progress. He expressed his unwavering support for the President’s decisions concerning the judiciary, trusting that these actions are in the best interest of the country.
“I support the President 100 percent because he is an experienced leader who knows what is necessary for the betterment of the country,” he affirmed.
In parallel developments, a five-member committee has been constituted to investigate the petitions calling for the removal of Chief Justice Torkonoo. The committee, chaired by Supreme Court Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, is scheduled to commence in-camera hearings on Thursday, May 15, 2025, in accordance with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution.
Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced that the committee will convene three times weekly and, upon conclusion, will submit its findings and recommendations to President Mahama. This investigative process follows the President’s initial finding of a prima facie case against the Chief Justice based on the petitions submitted.
Apostle Owusu-Bempah’s endorsement adds a significant voice to the ongoing debate, reflecting the intersection of religious leadership and political developments in Ghana.
