Akwasi Addai Odike, a key member of the Alliance for Revolutionary Change, is making his way back to Kumasi on Wednesday to begin a political tour in support of Alan Kyerematen’s 2024 presidential bid.
His return to the Ashanti Region’s capital is a significant step, as it comes after his earlier banishment by the Kumasi Traditional Council over comments he made about illegal mining.
Speaking on Hot FM’s Dwene Ho Biom, Odike stated, “My first flight will touch down in the Ashanti Region to advocate to my people why they should vote for Alan Kyerematen in the upcoming elections.”
He emphasized that his visit will mark the beginning of a nationwide campaign that will be held simultaneously across all regions.
Odike was banished by the Kumasi Traditional Council in 2022 after he accused the chiefs of not doing enough to tackle illegal mining, known as ‘galamsey,’ which he said was destroying the environment.
His remarks were considered disrespectful, leading to a symbolic banishment ritual by the chiefs.
Despite these past tensions, his return signals a new chapter as he looks to engage his home region in Alan Kyerematen’s campaign.
“I am determined to convince my people to support Alan as the next president of Ghana,” Odike added passionately, hinting at a possible reconciliation or a renewed political showdown.
His presence in Kumasi on Wednesday will undoubtedly draw attention and set the stage for what could be a pivotal moment in the 2024 campaign season.
