A woman and her 5-year old child have been crushed to death while on a pragya (tricycle) by a speeding truck believed to have been moving from Kumasi to Accra around Oforikrom, in the Ashanti Region.
According to eyewitnesses, the sad incident happened at about 9:30pm on Sunday.
The driver of the pragya (tricycle), packed the victims beside the road, and went out to exchange money with a woman selling around the area. But unfortunately, little did he know that he didn’t park well. A huge truck, moving from Kumasi outwards rums into the tricycle, crashing it beyond recognition.
The woman ( described by the driver to be around 35 years of age) and the little child were found dead from a distance, where the incident occured.
Speaking to the media, the 24-year-old driver, by name Lukeman, expressed much pain and deep sorrow, not over his only source of income, but rather for the two innocent lives that were lost within the twinkle of an eye. He said that life is indeed very short and unpredictable.
The Ghana National Fire Service and the police later evaded the scene and took the remains of the deceased into a morgue at Oforikrom in the Ashanti Region. Further investigations are still ongoing to locate family and friends of the deceased.
