The organizers of Ghana’s most prestigious music awards scheme, CharterHouse, introduced the Urban Gospel category in the upcoming 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).
The introduction of the Urban Gospel category has generated considerable discussion within the entertainment industry.
Veteran sound engineer Fred Kyei Mensah, better known as Fredyma, has expressed his support for the new gospel category, believing it to be a positive step forward.
In an interview with Hotfmghana.com, Fredyma highlighted the significant progress and contributions of Urban Gospel artists in Ghana over the past year.
“This is one of the great news about this year’s TGMA…The introduction of the Urban Gospel Category is excellent…So many artists from this genre are going to benefit…It is a very competitive category,” Fredyma said.
Fredyma specifically noted multiple award-winning Urban Gospel singer Joseph Matthew as part of the movement creating impactful music, suggesting he is a strong contender for the award.
“An artiste like Joseph Matthew…He is a fantastic artiste. I’ve followed him from his very first song, and he just gets music. What really stands out is his vocal strength – you can hear every word. Plus, he weaves in so many great African rhythms, and he nails the timing, tuning, and tempo in his songs. He’s something special…His song ‘Fear No Evil is Magical… He is a strong contender for this category”.
Joseph Matthew, in the year under review, released ‘Fear No Evil.’ The multiple award-winning Afrocentric artist showcased his lyrical talent, rapping with confidence, in this dynamic and exciting track.
As a thrilling journey, ‘Fear No Evil’ reflects Joseph Matthew’s growth as an artist and solidifies his position as a leading force in Afro-gospel music.
