The former Chairperson of the opposition Convention People Party [CPP] Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim has stated that President John Dramani Mahama should’ve waited one year before relieving Dr George Akuffo Dampare from his post as the Inspector General of Police [IGP]
Dr George Akuffo Dampare was relieved from his position as part of the ongoing security sector reforms under Mahama’s administration.
Dampare, who was appointed the IGP in 2021, and is well-known for leading important policing reforms, including community engagement initiatives and measures to enhance internal discipline within the service, has been succeeded by COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new IGP.
Expressing her views on the former IGP’s removal on Hot Morning Drive – hosted by Don Kwabena Prah on Accra-based Hot 93.9FM, Hajia Hamdiatu Ibrahim stated that Mahama should have waited one year before dismissing Dampare.
According to the former Chairperson of the CPP, even though she is not surprised the president had replaced the former IGP, “To me, I feel he should’ve waited for a year before removing him “.
