Illegal mining activities are wreaking havoc on infrastructure in Wassa Dadieso, located in the Wassa Amenfi East Municipal of the Western Region.
Roads, electricity transmission poles, water pipes, and other essential installations have been destroyed with impunity by the miners.
These activities are taking place right in the center of the town, putting buildings at risk of collapse and endangering residents.
The destructive impact is evident along the Ayanfuri-Wasa Akropong road, where illegal miners have obliterated the shoulders of the road on both sides, making it hazardous for motorists.
Telecommunication cables and water supply pipes have also been severely damaged, disrupting vital services for the community.
Nana Oteng Ababio II, the chief of Dadieso, expressed his deep concern over the situation. Despite his worries, he feels powerless as the illegal miners appear to have strong backing.
He highlighted the numerous accidents caused by trucks moving from the galamsey sites onto the highway without proper signaling, posing a significant risk to commuters.
Chief Oteng Ababio II is urgently calling on authorities to intervene and address the rampant illegal mining that is endangering lives and infrastructure in Wassa Dadieso.
