Nana Kwame Bediako, known widely as Cheddar or Freedom Jacob Caesar, has announced his intention to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming December 7 presidential election.
This decision comes after unsuccessful attempts to register his New Force Movement as a political party with the Electoral Commission.
Cheddar explained that the prolonged approval process by the Electoral Commission has left him with insufficient time to campaign effectively if he waits for the party registration. He emphasized that the movement had completed all necessary requirements and submitted the forms on September 12, 2023, but delays persisted.
In a press conference held in Accra on July 12, 2024, Cheddar revealed that the Electoral Commission had informed the movement on May 30, 2024, that the application was still under review. He highlighted that the three-month gazetting process was a significant hurdle, making it impractical to wait any longer.
Despite the setbacks, Cheddar remains committed to his political ambitions and assured Ghanaians that he would continue to push for the New Force Movement’s registration after the election.
He believes that running as an independent candidate aligns with the nation’s history of gaining independence and can help address the current political challenges facing Ghana.
