A total of 7,163 delegates from across Ghana are expected to participate in the New Patriotic Party’s National Delegates Congress and Officers’ elections on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi
The congress, which will be held in two parts, will consider proposed amendments to portions of the party’s constitution and oversee the election of national officers.
Proposals for amendment
According to Citi News sources, the proposed amendments are expected to be fewer than 20. They include proposals that were not effected during the last constitutional amendment in Accra in January 2026, as well as new proposals that, upon further consideration, require a re-look.
However, following further deliberations, the party is seeking to amend the provision to designate the party’s flagbearer as the leader of the party.
Another proposed amendment concerns the election of Vice Chairpersons.
Under the current constitution, all candidates contest the position of National First Vice Chairman, with the first, second and third Vice Chairpersons determined based on the order of votes received.
Under the proposed amendment, candidates would instead apply and contest for specific Vice Chairperson positions.
The party will also seek delegates’ approval for the appointment of three additional Vice Chairpersons who would not be subjected to elections.
Other proposals include the appointment of Deputy Communications Officers and making the IT Officer an executive position.
Based on the experience at the Legon conference, it is expected that the Chairperson of the Constitutional Amendment Committee, or their representative, will read out the motions arising from the proposals, after which delegates will vote by voice.
Breakdown of delegates
The election of national executives is expected to be the focal point of the congress.
A total of 7,163 delegates are expected to cast their ballots. The Ashanti Region has the highest number of delegates, with 1,122, followed by Greater Accra and Eastern with 773 and 732 delegates
The Savannah Region has the lowest number of delegates, with 184, followed by Western North with 223.
Of the 7,163 delegates, 2,745 will vote in the Youth Organiser race, 1,275 in the Women’s Organiser race, and 858 in the NASARA Organiser race.
