The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has announced that the crucial league clash between the Accra-based club Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko would as well be the 2023 Presidential Cup.
”The @GhanaLeague match between giants @HeartsOfOakGHand @AsanteKotoko_SC scheduled for Sunday, March 5 in Accra, will serve as the 2023 President’s Cup”, the Tweet stated.
The Betpawa Premier League clash between both teams is scheduled for Sunday, March 5 in Accra at 3 pm.
According to GHALCA, the winner of the tie would be honoured by the President of Ghana, Nana Akudo-Addo in attendance.
”The winner of the tie will be crowned champion with President @NAkufoAddo in attendance’‘ the Tweet also stated.
With the same number of points in the 2022/2033 Ghana Premier League, the Porcupine Warriors come 3rd while the Phobians come 4th with the goal difference decider.
Meanwhile, the Accra-based club has won more matches in their clashes with their Kumasi rivals.
The President’s Cup is an annual one-off game, featuring two selected clubs at the end of the season. The cup is called the GHALCA President’s Cup because it is organized by Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) and played in honour of the sitting President of Ghana.
The current holders are Accra Hearts of Oak, who defeated rivals Asante Kotoko 2–1 in the 2022 match. Asante Kotoko holds the record for most wins with eight titles.
