The Black Stars of Ghana have secured a spot in the 2023 African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) after securing 12 points in the qualification justifier for Group E.
This comes after the Ghanaian side faced the Central African Republic(CAR) in the final group fixture at the Babayara sports stadium in Kumasi.
The Les Fauves of CAR, who needed a win to make their first appearance in the AFCON for the 2023 campaign, looked threatening to the Black Stars in the first quarter of the fixture.
August 2023 Crystal Palace player of the month, Jordan Ayew, was appointed by head coach Chris Houghton to lead the West African side in Kumasi.
As stated earlier, the Les Fauves were a threat to the Black Stars after a gloomy misstep by goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi, which led to an early goal for CAR.
However, West Ham’s recent signee, Mohammed Kudus, leveled the scoreline after scoring a freekick for his national side.
Ernest Nuamah’s second goal for the Black Stars in the latter part of the second half secured the spot for the 2023 AFCON to be hosted in Cote d’Ivoire.
Ghana topped Group E with 12 points, winning two matches while drawing the other four fixtures.
Angola side came second in the Group. Meanwhile, chances were not on the side of CAR and Madagascar as they secured 7 and 3 points respectively, in the qualifiers.
