The boys’ dormitory at SIMMS Senior High School in the Kwabere East District of the Ashanti Region has been destroyed by a fire outbreak.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), firefighters from the Mamponteng Municipal Fire Station succeeded in knocking out the aggressive fire that gutted the top floor of the 2-story dormitory building.
The professional and gallant GNFS officers were able to salvage adjoining structures, one room on the top floor, and the entire ground floor rooms and their contents from any fire effect.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation as no firefighters and student casualties are on record.
The distress fire call came in at 11:40 a.m. this morning. The firefighting crew got there at 11:42 a.m. to bring the blaze under control at 12:05 p.m.
The blaze was finally knocked out at 12:43 p.m.
Fire damages in 3 out of 4 upper-floor rooms were considerable and items such as student mattresses, metal bunker beds, books, and other personal effects of the students were destroyed.
