Former Deputy Communications Director for the NDC, General Amin has boldly claimed that the multi-million dollar Tamale Interchange—constructed under the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration—is a completely unnecessary waste of state resources.
The structural centrepiece, heavily touted by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a historic milestone to revolutionise and modernise the infrastructure landscape of the northern sector, has faced ongoing scrutiny from opposition forces since its commissioning.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on Hot 93.9FM’s Hot Morning Drive, hosted by Oman Nana, General Amin argued that the central business district of Tamale did not require a massive concrete flyover to resolve its traffic bottlenecks.
“The Tamale overpass [that the] NPP constructed is a waste… Tamale doesn’t need an overpass”. General Amin stated
According to General Amin, urban planning priorities were completely ignored by the NPP government in their haste to execute the project under the Sinohydro infrastructure barter agreement.
Defending his stance, the NDC stalwart explained that the structural nature of Tamale’s layout already had a built-in blueprint designed to divert heavy transit traffic away from the city centre without spending millions on an elevated flyover.
General Amin pointed out that a functional ring road and bypass framework is a far more practical solution for the metropolis.
