In a heated political climate, Emmanuel Azubila Salam, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for justice to be served equitably following his recent arrest.

The controversy erupted after Salam’s incendiary remarks, captured on video, called for violent actions against members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) if the opposition wins the upcoming elections.

Salam’s statements, which included threats of burning homes and harming NPP supporters, led to his arrest by the Tema Regional Police Command on August 27, 2024.

The spark for Salam’s controversial speech appears to be the provocative comments made by Bryan Acheampong, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, also the Minister for Agriculture.

Acheampong had publicly declared that the NPP would not relinquish power to the NDC if the opposition emerged victorious in the December 2024 general elections.

His assertion, made during a charged campaign rally in Nsawam, has been cited by Salam as a catalyst for his own fiery rhetoric, which has since been widely condemned.

Despite the gravity of his remarks and the subsequent legal consequences, Salam has used his platform to demand fairness in the application of justice.

In an interview with Dwene Ho Biom on Hot FM, he acknowledged the role of the police in maintaining public order but also called for an investigation into Acheampong’s statements.

Salam insists that equal scrutiny should be applied to all parties involved to ensure that justice is not only served but is seen to be served fairly.
