The Awutu Senya East Municipal Office of the Electoral Commission (EC) in Kasoa has rolled out a sensitization exercise to educate visually impaired voters on using tactile jackets during the December 7 general election.
The tactile jacket, a specially designed tool, enables visually impaired individuals to cast their ballots independently and maintain the secrecy of their vote.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Isaac Annor Otoo, the Municipal Electoral Officer, explained that the exercise aims to empower visually impaired voters to make their choices without external influence.
Mr. Sylvester Omane Anane, the Central Regional Chairman of the Ghana Blind Union, praised the initiative as timely and impactful.
In an interview, he noted that the training equips visually impaired voters with the confidence to independently exercise their franchise. He also cautioned against disruptions during the polls, warning that offenders would face legal consequences.
Participants of the sensitization exercise expressed their appreciation for the effort, highlighting the EC’s commitment to inclusivity. They described the initiative as a step toward ensuring equal electoral participation for all citizens, regardless of physical challenges.
