A Ghanaian delegation has held talks with the United Nations human rights office in Dakar on strengthening cooperation and implementing the country’s international human rights commitments.
The meeting with the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) focused on Ghana’s recommendations under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), its international reporting obligations and measures to improve human rights protection and accountability.
The delegation included members of Parliament’s Human Rights Committee and the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, as well as representatives of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
It was led by Ernest Yaw Anim, the Member of Parliament for Kumawu and chairperson of Parliament’s Human Rights Committee.
The UPR is a United Nations mechanism that reviews the human rights records of member states and issues recommendations for improving compliance with international standards.
The discussions also examined ways to improve coordination among Parliament, CHRAJ and OHCHR in advancing human rights commitments.
The engagement is expected to support closer institutional cooperation and efforts to strengthen human rights governance in Ghana.
