The Techiman Traditional Council has strongly refuted claims of rivalry between the people of Techiman and Kumasi following an attack on the convoy of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Speaking at the Ohene Ameyaw Palace in Techiman, Ɔyeadeɛyie Assah Akompanin, the Kyidomhene of the Council, assured the public that the incident does not stem from any chieftaincy dispute. Instead, he urged citizens to remain calm and go about their activities without fear.

The convoy of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was pelted with stones on Monday evening, December 2, 2024, by unidentified youth while returning from a funeral in Nkoranza, Bono East Region. The attack caused injuries and damage to vehicles.

Addressing the press, Ɔyeadeɛyie Assah Akompanin emphasized that the Techimanhene and the Asantehene, both members of the Oyoko Clan, share a strong fraternal bond and regularly communicate on significant matters.

The Kyidomhene condemned the attack and attributed it to reactions from gunshots fired by Otumfuo’s security detail upon reaching Techiman. He revealed that the incident has been reported to the Ghana Police Service, and investigations are ongoing to identify the perpetrators.

The Traditional Council is cooperating fully with authorities to ensure justice.

Techiman, known for its cosmopolitan nature, remains a harmonious community, Assah Akompanin stated. He reassured all residents and visitors of the town’s inclusive ethos, emphasizing that ethnicity, religion, or background has never been a basis for discrimination. He appealed to the youth across Ghana to channel their energies into productive activities that foster development and unity rather than engaging in reckless acts.

The Council’s swift response aims to dispel tensions and prevent the unfortunate incident from escalating. As investigations progress, the chiefs are calling on all parties to exercise restraint and prioritize the values of peace and collaboration that have long defined Techiman’s identity.
