A legal dispute has triggered confusion within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) just days before its much-anticipated National Delegates Conference, following the surfacing of a High Court writ listing two party members as plaintiffs—one of whom has now publicly disassociated himself from the suit.
The writ, dated July 17, 2025, and issued by the Accra High Court, lists Shamsudeen Iddrisu of Walewale and Boateng Kwadwo of Bantama as plaintiffs, with the NPP (National Headquarters) named as the defendant, myjoyonline reports.
The party has been ordered to respond to the suit within eight days.
However, by Thursday evening, Shamsudeen Iddrisu had issued a public statement denying any involvement, stating that he had not instructed any legal action and was unaware of the writ.
“I entreat the public to disregard the writ as I have not instructed any lawyer to do this on my behalf,” he stated.
He further reaffirmed his commitment to the NPP, expressing full respect for the National Council’s decisions and support for the upcoming Delegates Conference, which is set to take place this weekend at the University of Ghana.
Details of the claims in the suit remain unclear, as the full contents of the court filing have not been made public. Meanwhile, Boateng Kwadwo, the second named plaintiff, has yet to make any public comment on the matter.
The incident has raised eyebrows within party ranks, casting a shadow over the buildup to a crucial internal event expected to shape the NPP’s future leadership.
