The Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, has confronted military personnel over the demolition of structures around the La Beach Resort, questioning why the La area was being targeted despite assurances from the government that the area would be spared.
Speaking to the media on Friday, October 2, the MP said she had engaged the relevant authorities over the planned exercise and was assured that the structures around the Labadi Beach Hotel would not be demolished.
She therefore expressed surprise over the demolition exercise underway, insisting that neither she nor her team had been adequately informed.
“I went to where I had to go to, the authorities, and they assured me that Labadi Beach would not be demolished,” she said.
She questioned the rationale behind the exercise, asking, “What has La done?”
The MP said the situation had become more worrying because military personnel were allegedly firing shots and wielding guns at people who were present at the site.
She stressed that as the MP for the area, she had engaged the authorities over developments in La and was not sitting unconcerned over the demolition exercise.
