Four prominent Queen Mothers from the GaDangme traditional areas collectively known as Q4 and NHIA have joined forces to sponsor a free National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration drive for basic school students across Accra.

The exercise—spearheaded by Manye Naa Affipong IV (Paramount Queen Mother of Ngleshie Alata Traditional Area), Naa Yarbortsoo Ejurufeelor I (Kwabenya Noryaa Manye), and Naa Yarborkaa Ohetse I (Kwabenya Musu Koo Manye)—focuses on enrolling students from Ghana Education Service (GES) public schools within their respective jurisdictions at no cost to their parents.

The intervention comes at a crucial time for families as the NHIS card has become a mandatory

prerequisite for students seeking admission into Senior High Schools (SHS) across the country.

Recognizing the financial strain this requirement can place on households with multiple school-aged children, the Queen Mothers (collectively referred to as the Q4 Queens) decided to step in and absorb the registration costs entirely.

Expanding their community outreach, the Q4 Queen Mothers successfully extended their free National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration drive to the Accra Royal School and Accra Sempe Schools on Thursday, October 22, 2026.

This follows a highly successful exercise held earlier for school children in Bukom and Kwabenya MA Cluster of Schools reinforcing the traditional leaders’ allegiance to student welfare across Accra.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional leaders, Naa Komley Adjaduma 1, Bortianor Korfe Manye, emphasized that access to both healthcare and education should be frictionless for every child, regardless of their family’s financial background.

“Healthcare is a fundamental right, and no child should face barriers to pursuing their Senior High School education simply because they lack an active health insurance card…As mothers of the community, it is ourduty to support our children’s welfare and ease the financial burden on hard-working parents within our traditional areas.” She said

Headmaster of Accra Royal School, Isaac Agyapong and the Headmistress of Accra Sempe Schools Mrs Augustina Gyamenah commended the Queen Mothers for their proactive approach to community development and student healthcare support.

The registration exercise which was supported by the James Town youth, will continue across selected public schools in Accra in the coming weeks, ahead of the formal inauguration of the Youth Brigade.
